Devon and West of England batsman David Wrench helped himself to an unbeaten 71 as Plympton posted 128-1 against Ford Park. Ford Park were soon in trouble as J Dodds and T Howourth both picked up 3 wickets in a comfortable win. Chris Dawe and P O'Galagher named as fielders of the match.
Ford Park were on the end of another hiding as this time Plymouth bowled them out for just 54 in a little over sixteen overs, J Cunningham took 4-16 with T Hughes picking up a further 3 wickets. The loss of an early wicket didn't impede the run chase as Plymouth got home by 9 wickets, James Nicholls top scoring with 24. James Nicholls and Ben Cook were nominated as fielders of the match.
A very keenly contested match took place at Mount Wise as Yelverton visited the Devonport outfit. Batting first James Frappell made an unbeaten 35 in a total of 74. Although Mount Wise had a young side there was still four county batsman in the top six but Yelverton stuck to their guns as the home batsman got bogged down and went down to an opening game defeat for the first time in three years. Whilst the defeat is not terminal they will have to play a lot better than this if they are to have any hope of retaining their title for a third successive year.
