Cornwood 116 for 3 (R. Rickard 44, E. Staddon 28, E. Ames 1-7, J. Cramoyson 1-24) Yelverton Whirlwinds 72 for 2 (J. Cramoyson 23*, E. Staddon 1-0, J. Symonds 1-8) Cornwood beat Yelverton Whirlwinds by 44 runs |
Yelverton won the toss and asked Cornwood to bat, a decision they must have regretted after watching Elliott Staddon and Ryan Rickard put on 67 for the first wicket. Staddon (28) was unfortunately run out in the 9th over after a straight drive from Rickard was diverted on to the stumps at the non-striker’s end. Rickard maintained his excellent start to the season, hitting 44 before being well caught by C. Hayne off the bowling of J. Cramoyson. Luke Petherbridge (13 no) and Bill Beaumont (2 no) kept the board ticking over to enable the Corns to reach 116-3 off 16 reduced overs. E. Ames was the pick of the Yelverton bowling with 1 for 7 off 2 overs. Requiring more than 7 an over, Yelverton started brightly with D. Ackford and C. Hayne reaching 24 after just 3 overs. Staddon was brought into the attack and quickly removed C. Hayne (9) caught behind by Petherbridge. The Yelverton batsmen then struggled to get the ball away against some excellent Cornwood bowling and just 14 runs were scored off the next 10 overs. A late onslaught from J. Cramoyson (23no) saw Yelverton finish on 72-2 and a 44 run defeat. The Cornwood bowlers produced brilliant figures with Staddon (3-3-0-1), Will Soanes (3-1-4-0) and Jon Symonds (3-0-8-1) leading the way. |

21/05/09 Plymouth Peverell 124 for 3 (J. Varcoe 43, H. Barnes 22*, J. Widnall 1-13, D. Bryant 1-16) Plymouth Mount Wise 62 for 7 (J. Rothwell 12, G. Couldwell 2-10, J. Thorpe 2-12) Plymouth Peverell beat Plymouth Mount Wise by 62 runs |
Plymouth Peverell started slowly as a result of some tight bowling by Plymouth Mount Wise, pick of the bowlers was Mark Rose (4-0-14-0) and Liam Edmonds (4-0-20–0). During the second half of the innings Peverell gained momentum with valuable contributions from Jon Varcoe (43), Harry Barnes (22 not out) and Pasi Mawalage (21) which gave them a competitive total of 124. In reply Mount Wise found it hard going against a tight Peverell bowling attack who never allowed the batsman to dominate them and took wickets at regular intervals supported by a good fielding performance. This in the end allowed a comfortable victory. James Rothwell (12) was the pick of the Mount Wise batsmen and pick of the Peverell bowlers was Gus Couldwell (4 -1 -10-2). |

Plymouth Peverell won and the toss and decided to bat and made a bright start with Charles Attis making a quick fire 26. His departure brought to the wicket Harry Barnes who formed a partnership with Jon Varcoe. They put on 110 for the second wicket, Barnes made 51 whilst Varcoe remained unbeaten on 59. This was the major part of the total of 160. For Plymstock their younger bowlers kept their discipline throughout the innings the pick of these was C O'Higgins (4-0-18-0). In reply Plymstock B struggled against the Peverell opening bowlers J. Hancock (4-0-8-2) and Gus Couldwell (4-2-3-1). But the middle order batted well keeping the Peverell bowlers at bay. M. Thomas top scored with 28 whilst he was ably supported by M. Saunders (13) and R. Bailey (9 not out). Plymstock B were always behind the required rate and eventually fell 88 runs short of the required total. |
