Ivybridge batted first and opening bat Neil Lancaster top scored with 46. Some good shots towards the closing overs from Adam Huxtable with 30 not-out helped Ivybridge to 137 for 5 from their 20 overs. Pick of the Plymstock B bowlers was O. White with 2 for 24 off 4 overs. Plymstock got off to a slow start and were always behind the required run-rate. A good stand of 52 for the 4th wicket between M. Saunders (38) and O. White (13) left Plymstock needing 42 from the last 4 overs. Tight bowling from Tom Hall (2-14) and Huxtable (2-11) meant Ivybridge won a very entertaining game by 28 runs. |
Lewdown 85 all out (S. Ewen 30, G. Southcott 3-19, Pavi Mawalage 3-22) |
Two strong sides played out a great game of cricket and although a good batting track, high quality bowling from both sides dominated the game. Winning the toss, Plymouth Peverell bowled well from the off with Pasi Mawalage knocking out Lewdown run machine Will Hodgetts (4) in the first over. Lewdown progressed well to 23 before a fantastic one stump direct hit from point saw Fogerty stranded well out of his ground. Clearly rattled, a mix up ended with Ewen and Penrose at the same end with the ball in the fielder’s hand and despite the ball going to the wrong end, it was Penrose (1) who had to go. At 34 for 3, Boother and Ewen built well with Ewen, hitting some sweetly timed drives before an attempted pull saw him caught at mid-wicket for a solid 30. Jack Hatton and Boother both made 15 but the pressure of high quality bowling told and when they were both seen off by the Pasi and Pavi Mawalage combination, Lewdown were quickly finished for a total of 85. Plymouth Peverell could have been forgiven that they had done enough with the ball combined with confident fielding and catching and indeed looked to be coping well with the opening bowling of Fogerty and Williams, reaching 19 with no alarm bells ringing. Williams however was working up some genuine accurate pace, which ripped out the stumps of Attis and the Pasi in a fine spell of bowling. Whilst not taking a wicket, Fogerty was building steady pressure, joining the dots at the other end. Giving away only 28 runs from the first 8 overs and 2 wickets in the bag,
Both sides showed fine skills and in a match that could have gone either way and should be pleased with their performances, particularly all of the bowlers. Pasi was the pick of the Plymouth Peverell fielders and Jamie Everard stood out in the field for Lewdown with many run-saving stops. |

The Ivybridge bowlers maintained their discipline bowling a tight line and length supported by some good fielding which restricted Plymouth Peverell to 87 - 6 in their allotted overs. Ivybridge started with a flourish but Peverell remained patient and the opening stand was broken by a smart caught and bowled by Charles Attis. Due to a combination of tight bowling and the slow pitch, wickets fell at regular intervals with the last man going in the 15th over with the score on 59. Pick of the Peverell bowlers was Charles Attis (4 - 0 - 13 – 3) which enabled Peverell to seize the victory by 28 runs. C. Mcgrath batted well for Ivybridge scoring 25 of his side’s total. |
