James Douie joined Ackford and played well before being unfortunately run out. Will Johnson was then caught off the bowling of McArdle to bring in Jay Warner. Ackford had, by now, passed 50, and Warner batted very unselfishly to help him to his hundred. Ivybridge started batting but Yelverton struck twice in the first two overs. P. Williams and H. Plymstock 111 all out (O. Mulberry 35*, B. Verran 3-26, A. Gower 1-15)

Cornwood Oaks beat Plymstock by 4 runs

Gripping drama at Cornwood. The damp, dull conditions and constant drizzle couldn't prevent an excellent game of cricket enjoyed by all. Plymstock won a useful toss and although they found it difficult to winkle-out the Cornwood batsmen, the run rate was well controlled by the opening bowling pair of O'Higgins and Mulberry, who both bowled with pace and accuracy. Fortunately for Cornwood, Will Sargent was in fine form and spurred on by having the Herald photographer watching his every shot hit a season high score of 63 not out. This was ably backed up an excellent innings from Anna Gower who contributed a handy 15 to the total of 115 for 2. In reply the Plymstock batsmen generated real momentum to their innings with some positive running between the wickets. Fortunately Ben Verran managed to surprise himself, his teamates and most importantly the Plymstock batsmen with a few straight wicket-taking balls in a spell of 4-0-26-3. Mulberry continued to take on the bowling and was unlucky be on the losing side as his teamates found the fielding prowess of Cornwood too good, as 4 run outs at the end of the innings during a desperate run chase lead to an exciting finale.

Tavistock 104 for 6 (D. Milligan 35, N. Bennett 17, W. Johnson 2-20, D. Ackford 1-17)

Yelverton Typhoons 108 for 2 (D. Ackford 53*, W. Johnson 33, R. Bone 1-11)

Yelverton Typhoons beat Tavistock by 8 wkts

Yelverton won the toss on an overcast evening and asked Tavistock to bat first. J. Dent struck first taking the wicket of D. Hamill for a duck.  D. Ackford chipped in with a wicket at the other end to leave Tavistock on 10 for 2.  N. Turnock was run-out courtesy of a direct hit from fielder of the match G. Alderton. But Tavi skipper D. Milligan showed a positive intent and compiled a useful 35, and in partnership with N. Bennett (17) put on 34 for the 4th wicket before Bennett was caught & bowled by W. Johnson.  Johnson then also bowled Bennett with the score on 80 for 5.  R. Passmore (14) & F. Ross (10 n/o) took the final Tavi total up to 104 for 6 off their 20 overs.  For Yelverton, Johnson took 2 for 20 off his 4 overs and J. Warner (1-11 off 2) and J. Douie (0 – 9 off 4) both bowled well. D. Ackford and W. Johnson opened the batting for Yelverton and both were in a positive mood and played shorts all round the wicket. They quickly took the score along to 89 off the first 10 overs before Johnson was caught & bowled by Bennett for a well played 33.  J.Douie came and went without troubling the scorers, but D. Rogers (2 n/o) and Ackford (53 n/o) saw Yelverton home on 108 for 2 off 13.1 overs.  Tavistock’s most successful bowler was R. Bone with 1 – 11 off his 3 overs.  Yelverton won by 8 wickets.

Ivybridge 57 all out (P. Williams 20, D. Monger 5-13, W. Barriball 2-3)

Whitchurch Wayfarers beat Ivybridge by 126 runs

Whitchurch won the toss and decided to bat getting off to a great start. Luke Cummins struck the ball particularly well until being bowled by P. Williams. Billy Barriball then joined Ben Hodge and together they put on 83 runs, with Barriball hitting the ball cleanly to all parts of the ground. Hodge supported well until H. Bennett bowled him for 10. Barriball and Barney Megicks continued to keep the score ticking along with Barriball making a fine century, finishing 120 not out in the impressive total of 183 for 2. Ivybridge’s best bowler was H. Bennett with 2-0-7-1. Ivybridge started their batting but never got out of the blocks with Billy Barrilball (2-1-3-2) and Josh Towl (2-0-4-1) picking up quick wickets.  Dominick Monger took 2 wickets in his first spell, one a superb catch from Josh Towl. The only bright spark for Ivybridge was P. Williams (20) before being bowled by Monger. Luke Cummins came on to bowl G. Berry for 9 and Ivybridge’s resistance was nearly over. Monger got 3 more wickets in his second spell finishing with 4-0-13-5. It was left to Livvy Hodge to bowl the last batsman with her very first ball to secure the 126 run win. Dan Towl was voted the best fielder for Whitchurch, never stopping trying and fielding a point-blank smash going for a certain boundary 4.
