Plymouth Mount Wise (Year 7 Team) upset their older opponents Plymouth Peverell (Year 8 Team) in a local derby. In reply miserly bowling from Barney Couldwell (2-6 off 4) and Stevie Colmer (1-7 off 4) soon had Peverell in trouble. Peverell lost their way early on with dangerman Will Caufield brilliantly caught by Jack Dodge. James Bellerby (15) and McCauley Martin (14) tried to get Peverell back into it but with Dodge (2-23 off 4) wrapping things up Peverell closed on 67 for 8, losing by 21 runs to their younger rivals |

|
A high-scoring match between Plymouth Peverell and Tideford was won byPeverell thanks to a team batting display.Tideford won the toss, on an evening that had spells of both bright sunshine and rain showers, and set about the Plymouth bowling, with Ben Carter and Tom Martin putting on 56 for the opening stand, before Martin was run out thanks to a direct hit by Darryl Pinnegar. Oliver Price joined Carter at the crease, and moved the score on to 99, with some quick singles, and some good hitting, before Carter found James Bellerby at point, for a score of 57, from the bowling of Will Caufield. Oliver Demaine joined Price to move the score to 121-2 at the end of the 20overs.Plymouth's reply started quickly, despite the loss of opener Will Farrow in the first over. Will Caufield (29) set about the Tideford bowling from the beginning, and with valuable assistance from Ross Martin (9), James Bellerby (11), and Macauley Martin (14), the score after 10 overs was virtually on track with the required total of 122. With the score on 79, Caufield fell to the bowling of Nathan Summers, and with Macauley Martin going to Carter in the next over, Jo Bell and Matthew Sewell anaged to keep the scoring going to reach the target with 7 balls to spare. At a sunny kissed Cornwood Tavistock won the toss and chose to bat. The Tavistock opening pair of R. Bone and D. Milligan made a solid start and saw off the quick but wayward opening spell from the Cornwood Oaks strike bowlers Josh O'Hare and James Reid. The change of bowling to Matt White and Ben Verran proved decisive and between them they picked up 4 wickets and slowed the run rate considerably. Fortunately for Tavi, |

The Plymstock U13s team have become expert at taking things into the last exciting over & the latest game was no exception. Plympton batted first on their home ground & an aggressive 1st wicket stand between Connaris (37) & Mullin (20) took the score to 44 in 5 overs before the latter was bowled by Blackmore. Only Dalby (30*) & Webber (11) reached double figures as Plymstock bowlers found their accuracy. Tom Waller was outstanding with 3-16 in his 4 overs. Plymstock’s reply started steadily with Josh Sumner (19) & Mike Blackmore (13). When they went, Tom Hunt (20) joined Dom Mulberry. Excellent bowling from Connaris (2-7 in 4 overs) halted the away team’s chase & they needed 20 off the last 4 overs. With boundaries difficult to hit, it was left to Alex Wilson (12*) to scamper some pressure runs with Mulberry. With adventurous running & not a little luck they drew the scores level on the second last ball & Mulberry hit the winner from the last ball. |

Whitchurch 237 for 1 ( Cornwood dels 113 for 8 (M. Skeemer 52, J. Horgan 13, D. Northey 2-3) |
Whitchurch won the toss and on current form were looking for a big score. Skipper Billy Barriball started like a train hitting 18 off the first over. Despite some accurate bowling by Matt Skeemer & Brad Nicholls (both: 4-0-21-0). Billy and his brother Charlie continued to score at will, particularly punishing any full tosses and putting on a stand of 216 that was sheer pleasure to witness. Billy scored 4 fours in his first 50, and went on to score 153 before being caught behind for 153. This was his third hundred in 3 games, including 18 fours and 8 sixes. Charlie and Josh Monger continued the onslaught with Charlie finishing on a well deserved 50 not-out & Josh scoring 21 runs off 7 balls; Whitchurch finishing on an astonishing 237 for 1. Cornwood Dels started briskly, but Billy Barriball chipping-in with a wicket and a run-out left the Dels 21for 2. Only Matt Skeemer showed any real resistance. Whitchurch gave all their players a couple of overs. Pick of the bowlers were David Northey (2-0-3-2), Dan Towl (2-0-1-10) and Livvy Hodge (2-1-2-1). Cornwood reached 113 for 8 at the close, Whitchurch’s 9 year-old Dan Towl showing his team-mates how to field. Whitchurch won by 124 runs. |
Ivybridge 78 all out (G. Berry 23, D. Dawe 15, M. Martin 3-9, A. Hick 1-6)
|
Plymouth Peverell recorded a comfortable win against Ivybridge Eagles. Having been asked to bat, a regular fall of wickets restricted Ivybridge to 78 all out, with all of Plymouth Peverell's outfielders bowling at least one over each, and tidy fielding contributing to a fairly low score on a fast outfield. Macauley Martin taking 3 wickets, and AJ Hick taking three catches in the field, with five other bowlers getting a wicket apiece. |
Week 13 beginning Whitchurch 135 for 3 (C. Barriball 63*, B. Megicks 17*, B. Elliott 2-28, W. Sargent 1-15) Cornwood Oaks 75 all out (M. Maller 25, C. Barriball 3-12, D. Towl 3-14, B. Barriball 2-14) Whitchurch beat Cornwood Oaks by 60 runs |
Whitchurch won the toss and decided to bat. There was a steady start from Josh Towl and Ryan Alford before Bradley Elliott bowled Alford. Towl was joined by Billy Barriball who hit a quick 15 before being bowled by another good ball from Elliott. Billy was then replaced by his younger brother Charlie who, with Towl, put together a good stand of 29. Charlie was quite dominant, hitting to leg particularly well. Will Sargent then bowled Towl. With Charlie going well Barney Megicks then kept him company and together put a stand of 62 runs. Charlie completed a splendid 50, finishing on 65 not-out and Megicks on 17 not out. Whitchurch finished with 135 for 5 in their 20 overs. Cornwood Oaks’ batting started slowly, with good spells of bowling from Christian Hodges (4-0-14-1) and Dominick Monger (4-1-16-0) who kept scoring opportunities to a minimum. Only Matt Maller with some exquisitely-timed straight drives in his 25 caused Whitchurch any problems, no other Oaks player reaching double figures. When Maller departed the Oaks seemed to loose heart and the Barriballs took 5 wickets between them. This enabled Dan Towl to come on & finish off the tail with 3 wickets for 14 in 3 overs leaving Whitchurch victorious by 60 runs. Great fielding, particularly by Ben Hodge and Dan Towl with Barney Megicks behind the stumps all helped Whitchurch toward another League win, their eighth in a row. |
Yelverton 91 for 9 (H. Lopes 21, W. Johnson 20, S. Stocker 3-9, P. Steward 1-5) Plymstock 53 for 8 (P. Steward 16, H. Lopes 3-5, J. Dent 3-9) |
Yelverton won the toss and batted first. Yelverton openers D. Ackford & W. Johnson fell almost immediately after for 20, LBW off the bowling of W. Ward. The new batsmen H. Lopes & D. Cooper took the score to 48 before Cooper was run-out. C. Dawe joined Lopes and the pair put on 33 for the 4th wicket. Dawe fell LBW for 17 with the score on 81, and further tight bowling from Plymstock kept the scoring rate under control and the Yelverton innings closed on 91 – 9. H Lopes top scored for Yelverton with 21 and S. Stocker (2-0-9-3) was the most successful Plymstock bowler. In reply, the Plymstock batsmen found run scoring difficult in particular against H. Lopes (4-1-5-3) who with prodigious swing claimed 3 early wickets for only 5 runs. J. Dent (4-1-9-3) also chipped in with 3 wickets and only P. Steward with 16 could make much headway against the accurate bowling as the Plymstock innings closed on 53 – 8 to leave Yelverton winners by 38 runs. |
Plympton 50 for 6 (J. Sykes 15*, D,. Cooper 3-7, H. Lopes 1-7, D. Ackford 1-9) Yelverton 51 for 1 (D. Ackford 20*, H. Lopes 15*, A. Wass 1-21) Yelverton Typhoons beat Plympton by 9 wkts
|
In a low scoring game at Yelverton fielded first and struck almost immediately as Plympton opener C. Connaris was caught behind off D. Ackford without scoring. J. Mullin & E. Dalby tried to make headway against Ackford (4-1-9-1) & H. Lopes (4-1-7-1) but found run scoring difficult. J. Sykes (15 n/o) & J. Lee put together a stand of 25 for the 6th wicket but D. Cooper (4-0-7-3) kept a tight control on the scoring rate and the Plympton innings closed on 50 – 6 off their 18 overs. In reply, Yelverton lost W. Johnson for 8, bowled behind his legs by A. Wass with the score on 16. Then Ackford (20 n/o) and Lopes (15 n/o) put on 35 for the 2nd wicket to take the Typhoons home and seal a 9 wicket victory in 10 overs. |
Plymstock 113 for 3 (C. O’Higgins 42, M. Blackmore 30*, J. Sumner 19, R. Martin 1-20) Plymouth Peverell 34 all out (D. Pinnegar 6, F. Cowan 4-5, W. Ward 2-6, D. Mulberry 1-8) Plymstock beat |
Plymstock batted first on a rare fine July evening. Some accurate bowling from Caufield & Farrow restricted early runs. Josh Sumner (19) put on 34 with Charles O'Higgins before being well caught at short cover. Mike Blackmore joined the partnership & these two took the score to 106 before O'Higgins was run out looking for runs at the end of the innings. Blackmore was 30 not out in Plymstock’s final total of 113 -3. Peverell started badly with Caufield, Martin & Bellerby registering one run between them thanks to Dom Mulberry’s 4 over spell (1-8). |
With only a few matches left and both unbeaten in the League, Whitchurch won the toss and decided to bat on a damp grass pitch at Yelverton. Openers Josh Towl and Charlie Barriball started cautiously but well, until Towl was run out for 10 by H. Lopes backing-up. This brought Billy Barriball to the crease. Charlie & Billy built a good partnership with Charlie being the more dominant. After reaching their 50 partnership Billy was superbly caught by J. Dent above his head at mid-wicket. Charlie was still timing the ball well, and together with Josh Monger, Ryan Alford and Dom Monger enabled Whitchurch to finish on 111 for 5 from the allotted 20 overs. Charlie finished 52 not out. Yelverton had a bad start, losing opener W. Johnson in the first over but David Ackford was hitting the ball well. Billy Barriball resorted to spin and got 2 wickets in his next over reducing Yelverton to 11 for 3. A good stand of 24 between Ackford and B. Pearson (10) then followed until a great catch by Billy made it 35 for 4. Christian Hodges and Dom Monger came on to bowl and a further 2 wickets from Dom reduced Yelverton to 67 for 7. All this time Ackford was batting superbly at the other end. But Whitchurch were fielding like demons; a catch by Josh Towl, a couple of wickets from Ryan Alford, including a superb one-handed catch by Christian Hodges, reduced Yelverton to a final score of 93 for 9. Ackford was left on 49 not out. Whitchurch’s fielding was superb, especially Ben Hodge’s ground fielding and throwing. This game was played in a very good spirit, both teams a credit to the League. |
Week 14 beginning Whitchurch 108 for 6 (R. Alford 19, B. Hodge 16, M. Blackmore 2-20, D. Mulberry 1-19)) Plymstock 51 all out (J. Sumner 13, C. Barriball 3-8, D. Northey 2-6, C. Hodges 1-2) |
Whitchurch U13s batted first on a damp artificial pitch and did not find it as easy as in previous games. Openers Josh Towl and Charlie Barriball found runs hard to get but they put on 23 before Charlie was bowled by Michael Blackmore. Billy Barriball joined Towl and hit a few boundaries before being caught by Josh Sumner. Ryan Alford joined Towl and put on 22 runs before Alford was bowled by Dom Mulberry. All these partnerships were adding-up. Ben Hodge came in and again kept the score ticking. 2 good partnerships, 24 with Towl and 12 with Barney Megicks enabled Hodge to score his highest this year of 16. Whitchurch finished on 108 for 6. The pick of the Plymstock bowlers was Blackmore (4-0-20-2). Plymstock lost their opener O’Brien lbw to Hodges with just 3 on the board. Billy (4-1-11-1) and Charlie (4-2-8-3) Barriball kept the scoring to a minimum along with some excellent ground fielding and catching. Particularly a stunning catch from Ryan Alford at mid-off – (a full drive low by his feet) and David Northey keeping Whitchurch on top. Northey (2-0-6-2) came on to bowl and with Dan Towl (1-0-1-1) finished off the tail. Josh Sumner (13) the only Plymstock batsman to reach double figures. 2 Fielders stood out for Whitchurch- Ryan Alford and keeper Barry Megicks. Whitchurch winning by 57 runs. Ten league games – ten wins now achieved this year. |
