A brilliant innings from Dan Nightingale helped Cornwood Dels to an 83 run victory over Plympton Crusaders on a beautiful summers evening at Oak Park. Cornwood won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first. Things started badly though when Bradley Elliot was run out in the second over. Luke Richardson and Luke Petherbridge steadied the ship before Richardson fell, caught & bowled by Henders for 17. Nightingale joined Petherbridge and before long started hitting the ball to all parts of the ground before Petherbridge was bowled by Bourbon for 15, in a third wicket stand worth 70. George DeMendonca and Nightingale took the score on to 129-4, with DeMendonca 15 and Nightingale with an excellent 51 not out. Henders, Bourbon and Bailey each picking a wicket up for the Crusaders. In reply, only Cload made any progress against the Cornwood attack, hitting 19 before being caught at square leg by a diving one handed DeMendonca catch. Plympton Crusaders finally all out for 46, extras top scoring with 21. Matthew Skeemer 3-0-11-4 was the pick of the Cornwood bowlers, all 4 of his victims bowled. Richardson 2-1-1-2 and DeMendonca 4-0-19-2 both bowled well and man of the match Nightingale finished with 4-1-12-

Plymstock Cricket Club U13 played host to Ford Park the day after a tight victory away at Cornwood Oaks & found the opposition a little easier. The visitors chose to bat against some wayward bowling which O. Foster found to his liking, hitting 6 legside fours in his 25 before being well caught & bowled by Ben Underwood. A Late 13 by Hobday took the visitors score to 72 all out. Jake Bellison Billy Gibson, Ben Underwood & Charles O’Higgins all taking 2 wickets. Some suicidal running between Matt Saunders & Charles O’Higgins (18) caused both to be run our early but Ben Patrick (14) & Tom Hunt (13*) saw Plymstock home with 5 overs to spare.

Plympton Crusaders won the toss and elected to bat. The Crusaders were unfortunate in that 3 players dropped out an hour before the game due to illness, but decided to bat and put runs on the board to put pressure on the young Mount Wise team. The Crusaders got off to a fantastic start scoring 66 off the first 10 overs when captain Callum Cload got out for 54. This was the wicket Mount Wise needed and the Crusaders slump to 91 for 4 off 15 overs. With only 3 wickets left Crusaders were in trouble but vice captain Jacob Anderton managed to score 28 not out along with Jordan Bailey (10 not out) to move the score up to 120 for 4 off their 20 overs. A. Robertson and W. Caulfield bowled well without much luck.

Mount Wise in reply never really got going thanks to some tight bowling from Dan Dixon (4-2-8-3) and Jacob Anderton (4-1-14-1) who kept the score down to 23 for 4 off the first 8 overs. Mount Wise still had captain Will Caulfield at the crease who was batting very well but unfortunately when he fell for 29 and the score now on 48 for 7 the game was over. The Crusaders finished the game off, bowling Mount Wise out for 54, Myles Cheshire finishing with figures of 3-12 off 3 overs. In all a brilliant win for the Crusaders, after only playing with 8 players.

Plymouth Peverell won the toss and put a 10 man young Whitchurch side into bat in good conditions on a fast outfield at Peverell. A creditable batting performance by Whitchurch saw them reach a total of 92 for 8 off their 20 overs. B Barriball (26), A Northmore (28) and K Alford (15) scoring the bulk of the Whitchurch runs, the pick of the Plymouth bowlers being B Stein 4-0-3-20 and J Ellis 4-0-2-10 aided by a good team performance in the field. Plymouth comfortably knocked off the runs for the loss of 5 wickets with B Stein with yet another 50 plus score (57), and J Ellis (10) the only batters getting into double figures off just 14 overs. Credit is due to the Whitchurch players and officials for getting this game on at all as at lunchtime they only had 7 players. But after great effort by the manager and co-operation of parents they took to the field with 10 players including a few under 11s and they performed brilliantly. The winner on the day was cricket something that all club officials and players should remember as they strive for honours. Well done Whitchurch !
