KINGSKERSWELL set themselves up nicely for Saturday’s crunch clash with Torquay by handing out a 10-wicket hiding to Whitchurch.

Chris Hurrell took six for 44 as Whitchurch were sent packing for 98, Seb Powell then belted 32 not out to see Kerswell to all 20 points.

Kerswell are 19 points clear ofTorquay who won by eight wickets against Ashburton to take a share of second place off their vanquished opponents.

Ashes batted first against the useful bowling of Danny McKenna (2-32) and Anthony Nadar (2-39) and lost Al Churchill and Kevin Cock cheaply.

Xander Connabeer – the England schoolboy rugby player – blasted 79 in short order with five sixes and six fours before he was stumped off the bowling of Terry King (2-41).

Connabeer shared in stands of 55 with Nick Yabsley (12), 23 with Vernon Coon (3) and 34 with Will Coon (25).

Ashes were 195 all out at tea, which looked a little on the light side given Torquay’s powerful batting line up.

Torquay’s reply was convincing at the end, but life against the new ball was not easy. Josh Hunt (80) and Tim Western (55no) put on 95-match winning runs for the second wicket.

Cockington chased 221 to win against Chagford – and with James Howrihane and Joe Quinlan both making half centuries they got there

Mick Rusling and Ollie Perkins took three wickets each as Dartington & Totnes 2nd XI limited Lewdown to 179 for seven. Knocking off the runs proved a problem though and D&T were left hanging on at 150 for nine with Jack Buckner making 56.
