HOLDERS South Devon pulled off an improbable three-wicket win over Lustleigh to hang onto the Midas Shield for another 12 months.
South Devon looked down and out going into the last over at Paignton’s Queens Park as they needed 17 to win from Chris Simms’ final over.
Simms, who bowled the last over when South Devon Etceteras defeated Lustleigh in the Brockman Cup final two weeks ago, saw his first ball hit for six over mid-wicket by James McMahon as the target of 111 to win suddenly got closer.
Man-of-the- Match McMahon (39) and Pat Duke got the target down to three of the last two balls, them McMahon was run out coming back for a second run.
Dave Knowles went out to face the last ball needing two to win and he and Duke managed to scramble them in the fading light to clinch a three-wicket win.
