Devon U11 hosted Gwent at Plymouth College on Wednesday 27th May at Plymouth college. The sun shone all morning and the devon skipper Archie Farkins decided to ask Gwent to bat. Gwent started well if a little slow and got to drinks at 15 overs 49-2, this was due to some good opening bowling from devon bowlers Archie Farkins and Henry Cooper. It was Ollie Smith who did the damage though with figures of 5-1-16-2. Gwent pushed on and by second drinks at 30 overs had managed to get to 130-4. The last 19 overs also proved fruitful and Gwent pushed to 183-8 off their allotted 40 overs.
After tea Devon made early inroads into the Gwent total due to some aggressive and positive batting from Joe Farmer (47). At drinks Devon had reached 85-2 and were still pushing hard at the total. Freddie O'Connell who hit a 100 the Sunday before in a district game hit a very useful 43. Devon lost 5 wickets in the run chase but surpassed the Gwent total in the 29th over!
