CLYST Hydon had promotion snatched away on the last day of the season when they were turned over by five wickets by champions Lewdown.

Hatherleigh swamped Cockington by 10 wickets to go past Clyst Hydon into second place.

Clyst were shot out for 68 by Phil Yeo (8-51) and Rob Mutch (2-13).

Dhanuja Haturusingha with a dozen was Clyst’s only double-figure run scorer.

Haturusingha (2-17) and skipper Kev Sercombe (2-19) delayed the inevitable for a while.

Dave Ball (30) and Mutch (16no) saw Lewdown to their 16th win of the season. They have not lost a game that has gone the distance.

Sercombe was disappointed but not surprised by the last-day turn of events as Hatherleigh have been nipping at their heels for weeks.

“Knowing we had such a difficult game on the last day meant we could not let them get too close – and by losing to Stoke Gabriel a couple of weeks ago we left ourselves wide open for this to happen,” said Sercombe.

At the other end off the table Seaton went down by 66 runs to Ashburton on their way into the D Division for the first time in the club’s history.

Ross Field hit a top score of 54 and with Tony Lacey (33), Chris Pacoe (25) and Adam Peters all chipping in Ashes made 200 all out. An opening stand of 84 helped.

Seaton were 73 for three, 74 for six and 134 all out – Nick Beedell making 55 and Ben Libby 22.

Ashley Harvey (5-44) and Gordon Colwill (4-36) took the wickets that killed Seaton off.

Hatherleigh routed Cockington by nine wickets after Mark Lake (4-21) and Nick Rogers skittled them out for 73.

Gareth Tidball (40no) and Rob Chapman (26) had victory wrapped up before tea.

Cockington are on their way down for the second successive season and will want to halt the slide in 2012 before things get any worse.

Kingsbridge went all the way to Bideford for half a game as rain stopped play at tea time.

Will Barrett with 36 led the way as Bideford made 224 for nine, aided by Matt Allin 31 and Chris Luxton (31no).,

Bhanu deSilva spun his way to figures of four for 69 for Kingsbridge, who didn’t get a chance to bat.

Stoke Gabriel finished on a high note when they beat Ivybridge by eight wickets in the South Hams derby.

Andy Johnson (51) and Gareth Andrews (43) were among the runs as the Bridge made 175 for nine.

Simon Phillps bagged five for 28 in his farewell appearance for Stoke before going home to Australia and Matt Smyth took three for 40.

Knocking off the runs was routine for Stoke, who lost Steve Tolley (34) and Matt Taylor getting there.

Phillips (83no) and Karl Blackburn (51no) put in 84 unbroken to win it.
