Tony Pryce Sports Devon Cup
BOVEY Tracey were swept aside by 73 runs on Sunday as double-hunting Sidmouth eased into the final of the Tony Pryce Sports Devon Cup.
Sidmouth should be confirmed as Premier Division champions this Saturday once their game against North Devon is completed.
Waiting for Sidmouth in the final are Plymouth, who dispatched Exeter by 39 runs in the other semi,
Anthony Griffiths was the anchorman for Sidmouth with 62 off 109 balls in their total of 187 for five.
A stand of 57 between Griffiths and Chris Williams set the scene for Neil Hancock to club a quick 54 of 61 balls.
Bovey’s early order was blown away by Hancock (2-24) and Scott Barlow (2-10), which left Murray (4-21) to run through the middle order.
At 77 for seven the writing was on the wall for Bovey, who faded to 114 all out. Richard Longstreet top scored for Bovey with 25. Next best was Andy Kingdon with 18.
Harry Stephenson and Steve Marks both scored half centuries as Plymouth reached 222 for six in their 40 overs against Exeter
Dave Burke and James Nicholls them claimed three wickets each as Exeter were dismissed for 183 in reply.
Plymouth were last in the final back in 1994 when they defeated Bovey Tracey at Exmouth. Plymouth have won the cup six times, staring off in the inaugural season of 1994 when they beat Torquay at Exeter St Thomas’ ground.
Arnie Searle top scored for Exeter with 58. John Parker (2-32) got him out clean bowled to kill the game at 160 for eight.
Burke (3-37) claimed Hood caught behind while Nicholls picked up three for 34.
When Plymouth batted, they were anchored by a knock of 72 by Stephenson, who opened up by making 75 for the first wicket with Nicholls (20).
Marks kept the score ticking over on his way to 59 not out.
The final is at Sandford on August Bank Holiday Sunday.
