South Africa Tour Overview
South Africa Tour - Overview

Background
The tour started in 2002 masterminded by initial links formed by Alan Swift. Originally starting as an Under 16 development tour it evolved over time to become an Under 15 development tour, this meant falling in line better with school exams timetables.  The tour encompasses two areas of South Africa, which are both unique but offer very different things on and off the field. The Kruger National Park shows off its fantastic scenery and wildlife whilst offering a still test on the field against local private schools who take cricket exceptionally seriously. Since the beginning the tour has played all its games in the Kruger at the Skukuza Cricket Club, which can only be described as stunning, set within the park it offers the exciting experience of playing cricket whilst warthog, kudo, and even the odd lion roam on the outfield.  The second part of the tour takes the boys down to the Western Cape to Cape Town where they get to experience the vibrancy of the city of Cape Town and also test themselves against high quality representative teams from the region. The Cape Town section is normally ten days whereas the Kruger last six, within this period of time over the two locations the boys get to play six games of cricket in a variety of different formats.

Purpose
The tour is there to provide a unique opportunity for under fifteen players from within Devon to test their skills and greater there cricketing knowledge with two weeks in South Africa. The tour is in addition to the normal county age group programme, which is the main focus for the cricketers once back to the UK.  The tour isn't just to help young cricketers from the county but also help broaden the horizons of coaches and umpires who want to expand their knowledge base as well.
