Match Result:- Devon Lost by 2 wickets Toss Won by Devon Match Report Day 1 - After captain Sam Maunder called correctly Devon 15s elected to bat on a very hot day. Devons innings started well with some healthy scores coming from Ashley Causey (65) and Tom Lammonby (48). Numerours other members of the Devon line up made starts but no one kicked on, this meant Devon after looking set to get near an inevitable 300 end up bowled out for 202, with a bizarre passge of play post lunch seeing 7 wickets fall for 40 runs. The Nelspruit response started slowly with wickets falling at regular intervals. Wickets were shared around however the pick of the bowlers were new to the squad Jabez Weale (2 -24) from Hatherleigh and Bovey Traceys Chris Yabsley (2 - 22). Nelspruit finished the day 140 - 9. Day 2 - Going into day two Devon appeared to be in the driving seat. However taking 12 overs to take the final Nelspruit wicket, this meant Nelspruit finished within 16 of the Devon first innnings total of 202. Devon batted again looking to set the school team a target and then leave enough time to take the 10 wickets to win the game. Devons innings started well with the in form Mikey Cooper adding to his tour tally so far with a well made 32. Kazi Szymanski showed his skills of application and intent to score at the crease manovering a well made 64 before falling to Nelspruits crafty off spinner Du Plooy. Others made starts of 10s and 12s but no other Devon batters really managed to make their mark on the game. Devon were eventually bowled out for 160. As temperatures soared to a whopping 41Degrees, Nelspruit required 167 to win in 46 overs. Devon managed to restrict Nelspruit to 100 for 5 with Kazi Syzmanski being the pick of the Devon bowlers bowling a fiery spell on the mundane track, and taking 2 wickets along the way. However Szymanskis efforts were all in vain as Devon missed catches and run out chances to finish Nelspruit school. Nelspruit crept over the line with two and half overs in the day left. |
