Match Result:- Devon Won by 102 Runs Toss Won by Western Province Newlands Cricket School U15s Match Report Day 1 A hot day in Cape Town with a predicted 31 Degrees in the shade. Captain Lammonby called incorrectly however were asked to bat. Jamie Khan and Jack Gibbs opened up for the South West county side, neither managed to hang around long as the Newlands school bowlers utilised the new ball. However this may have been to there detriment bringing the two Devon in-form men to the crease. Lammonby and Cooper then took about the Newlands school attack, slowly gathering momentum towards lunch taking some overs for 16 or more. Cooper was unfortunately run out at the bowlers end after Lammonby drilled one back for a brilliantly crafted 72. Lammonby however kept blazing, crunching all the Newands School bowlers to all part of the Vineyard oval for a 169, a record score by any Devon player in South Africa. Devon finished there alloted 65 overs 344 for 7. In response the Devon attack proved to hefty to handle for the Newlands School side, with wickets falling at regular intervals like in previous games. Newlands School finished day one firmly behind the pace of the game at 133 for 7 at the close. With Leon Horn the pick of the Devon bowlers from the evning sessions claiming three wickets. Day 2 Devon used the old ball well first thing in the morning finishing off the school side for 150. A fiery spell by Kazi Szymanski finished off the Newlands School for 155 all out. Devon decided to get some batting practice and not enforce the follow on. This allowed further opportunity for some of the Devon batters to have a hit for 20 overs. Devon declared on 76 for 2 with some runs coming for Sam Maunder (30) and Jack Gibbs (23*). This set the school 265 from 71 overs to win. The Newlands innings started with a little more determination from the batters to value their wickets, however Devons varied attack overpowered the school team bowling them all out for 160. Yet again the pick of the bowlers was Leon Horn with four wickets, which gave him a total of 8 victims for the game. Devons final game is against Western Province this Friday. |
