Devon U15s v Western Province U15s @ Newlands International Ground- 50 Over Game |
Match Result:- Devon U15s Lost by 123 Runs Toss Won by Devon Match Report A game to remember for the members of the Devon tour party this one. Not only it being their final match in South Africa of the 2015 tour but also it being at the Newlands Test Ground made it exceptionally special. Captain Lammonby donned the Devon blazer to do the toss which he called correctly and chose to have a bowl first to make the most of the early morning conditions. Paceman Szymanski made full use of the new ball removing one of the Province 15s openers for just 9. Szymanskis first five over went for just 13, he continued his form from the rest of the tour and bowled well in tandum with Hatherleighs Jabez Weale. After the intial spell by the two Devon quickies, Devons day got gradually worse as the province side set about taking the Devon attack apart, with batters Leibenberg (92) and Breed (113) providing a great example for any young batters how to build a big score. Devon kept going but with the flat Newlands deck being unforgiving to any loose deliveries Western Province 15s finished on 302 for 3 in 45 overs. Devons innings never really gathered the momentum needed to chase down such a mamouth score. However there were positives to be taken from the Devon innings with Ashley Causey crafting a well made 39 before being run out, and the in form Mikey Cooper showed the steps forwards his cricket has taken this tour by blasting 56 at just over a run a ball. Coopers innings yet again included another couple of sixes which has been a regular feature of his batting this tour. Devon finished 123 runs behind the Western Province side who had recently won the South African National competition. |
