Tour Report The sixth Development tour was another huge success as always superbly organised by Alan Swift. The 2007 trip kicked off with three straight wins, which were then unfortunaterly, balanced by three defeats on the trot. In the first game Lewis Gregory score 119 well assisted by William Gater.Toby Ingham took 3 for a miserly 10 runs.In the second game Gater and Matt Hickey were the leading contributors with the bat and Alex Carr then took three cheap wickets. Devon were too good for the Western Province invitation squad bowling them out for 77 and lost two wickets passing the total with Matt Thompson and James Toland leading the way. Their first defeat was inflicted by Boland as Gregory scored 35 and Hickey 30 although Alex Carr only conceeded thirthy- nine runs in his twelve overs taking three of the four wickets to fall. In the two day game with Western Province JJ Debenham took 6-59 as the home side were bowled out for 179. In their innings Devon were 50 short with Gregory again playing an important part. WP took their lead up to 182 when they declared five down. With contributions again from Gregory and Luke Tuckett Devon were all out 55 short. Devon fell short in their second two day game this time by 38 runs as Mpumalanga scored 308. In reply Devon declared 130 behind with Matt Hickey falling 4 short of a fifty and Henry Parkin also played a part. The home side set Devon a second innings run chase of 214 but despite their best efforts particularly from Gregory and Thompson they lost by 38 runs. We are exceedindly fortunate to be hosted splendidly by Nabeal Dien of the Western Province Cricket Associationand by Frik Rossouw and Jennie Geldenhuys in the Kruger. Our thanks to everyone who made the trip possible. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
