20 / 20 v Lowveld Invitational X1 Match 1On the first match of the 2016 tour Devon won the toss and decided to bat. Posting 118 for 2 off the allotted 20 overs James Degg was the first wicket to fall being caught at mid off for 11. Deggs opening partner Sam Carpenter chanced his arm and managed to play his naturally aggressive game taking the Lowveld side for a well made 46. James Doble (23) and Abraham Kopparmabil (16) finished the Devon innings both unbeaten at the crease.
In reply the Lowveld sides started brightly with a 60 run opening stand. Some powerful hitting from batsman Parnel of the opposition saw pressure build onto the Devon side. Devon however responded excellently to this with some sensible field placing and accurate bowling slowed the run rate and created scoreboard pressure upon to the opposition. Devon's two most dangerous bowlers being the spin pairing of Sam Carpenter (13 - 5) and U14 Max Hancock (14 - 2) this turned the match into Devon's favour and spurred a collapse of 22 runs for 10 wickets.
Devon completed a 36 run victory in the first match of the SA tour.

The Lowveld Invitational X1 decided to bat first in the game and with some huge hitting by Parnel (96not out) managed 148. All of Devons bowlers felt the heat of the Kruger whilst Parnel was depositing the Devon bowlers all round the Skukuza Oval.
In response Devon fell 13 runs short. Some good partnerships and intent to score saw some real positives from the Devon batting innings. The main highlights from the innings were Sam Taylor (33), James Onley-Gregson (19) and Max Mejzner (21).
Despite the 13 run defeat some real improvements in the way Devon batted in comparison from the first game. Devon now move into a two day match v Nelspruit School on Monday and Tuesday.
