For the penultimate game of the 2016 tour Devon travelled to Western Province cricket club, situated below table mountain, to play against the Provincial U15's side. The Provincial side was made up of a combination on A and B team players but could only muster 9 players due to school commitments.
Devon won the toss and inserted the 9 man opposition. Devon started positively removing the Western Province captain for 2 when he was bowled by Onley-Gregson. Devon continued to keep things tight through the middle over only allowing the Provincial side to score at 3-4 runs per overs. Ever reliable Max Hancock took the second wicket of the day bowling Damonze for 10 when he decided to shoulder arms to a ball spinning back onto the off stump. Hancock again bowled tidily recording the most economical figures of the day and finished his allocation of overs before the onslaught come. The Provincial side third wicket partnership of 131 was putting pressure on the Devon bowling and fielding unit but Elliot Adams removed both batsman in quick succession when he had opener Bell caught for 77 and then Woolf caught behind for 74. Devon rotated the bowlers eventually using 8 but could never get on top of the Western Province batters and as the innings entered its final ten overs the batsmen really cut loose, clearing the ropes on several occasions and imposing themselves on the game. The Western Province innings close on 261-5 off 45 overs.
Devon required 5.8 runs an over to achieve a successful run chase against the 9 men of Western Province. Mejzner and Sapiecha opened the batting for Devon hitting a boundary each before the collapse started, Mejzner hit a short wide ball to point and Sapiecha was caught behind. Devon then lost a further 4 wicket only adding 12 runs to the scoreboard, Walliker scoring the majority of those during his stay at the crease of 12. The feature of the tour, the wagging tale, successfully raised the total over 50, Woodcock 10 and Adams 29 proved that batting was not too hard and scoring was actually quite easy when batsmen applied themselves.
Devon's last game on tour is on Friday against a Townships side at Bergvliet High School.
