EXMOUTH won’t be risking fast bowler Trevor Anning in the derby clash with Budleigh Salterton.Anning suffered a hand injury playing for Devon against Cornwall on Sunday, which necessitated a trip to hospital to be patched up.
Exmouth skipper Riichad Baggs wants Anning fit for the long haul, so short term it is best to leave him out.
“It is not worth risking Trevor for one game as if he damages it further he could miss a month,” said Baggs.
“He couldn't bowl anyway as hand would have to be taped up so wouldn't be allowed to bowl.”
Budleigh go to the Maer winless in three games, not that Baggs is taking much notice.
“Budleigh are far better than played three, lost three and our best bowler isn't playing,” said Baggs.
“It is also a local derby so all results so far mean nothing.
“Budleigh have good players and we are expecting a very hard game.
“Without Trevor it gives the other seamers a chance to shine and step up.”
Budleigh welcome back Jack Dart, who replaces Neil Murrin in the starting line up.
Skipper Joel Murphy said he was struggling to pinpoint exactly where it is going wrong for Budleigh, although one or two things are obvious.
“I think we showed batting second against Bradninch there isn’t too much wrong as we got 280 odd – a great effort going in second,” said Murphy.
“When we bowl we need a bit more consistency and with the exception of Matt Kidd and one or two others we aren’t doing it.
“What we aren’t doing is getting early wickets which allow myself and Bob (Dawson) to put pressure on in the middle overs.
“Get that right and the results will come.”
