DAVID Lye was the man of the moment as Exmouth walloped Exeter by 198 runs on the County Ground.
Lye top scored with 95 ass Exmouth raced to 335 for six declared in 45 overs.
Exeter were bowled out for 137 in reply and it was that man Lye who finished them off, taking five wickets for 20 runs to rip the guts out of the early and middle order.
Victory keeps Exmouth third in the table – three points behind Bovey in second
Exeter are halfway up on 56 points.
Exeter’s bowling took a battering from Exmouth, who were scoring at nearly nine runs an over from the off.
After Exeter debutant Billy Searle trapped Lawrence Greenway lbw in the second over, Sandy Allen and Lye really went to down.
Allen made 51 in a stand of 73, and when he went Seb Benton joined Lye to push the score from 89 for two to 210 for three in 13 overs.
Benton – seven fours and four sixes on a 48-ball 65 – was bowled by Adam Gribble then Harry Booker spun out Lye.
Lye faced 64 balls for his 95 and belted 16 fours.
There was no let up for Exeter as Richard Baggs (58) and Gary Chappell (28) rattled off another 59 before the overs ran out.
Exeter weren’t far behind the clock while second pair Miles Lenygon (26) and Blake Reed were together.
Then Lye snared Reed for 38 and the slide started in earnest.
Exeter went from 82 for one to 85 for five in four overs and were out of the game. Lye had thre of the wickets to fall.
Gary Chappell helped Exeter on their way with two for 11.
