KINGSKERSWELL will be looking to maintain their 100 per cent record in the F Division when Lifton come calling on Saturday.
Win number five was a 164-run verdict over perennial strugglers Newton St Cyres.
Kerswell were missing a couple of their regulars, including last week’s centurion Erik Gregersen, and had to start with 10 men due to skipper Chris Hurrell’s work commitments.
However this did not deter Kerswell from making the most of winning the toss electing to bat first looking for a 200-plus total and the opportunity to declare early and go for the extra two bonus points.
Most of the batsman chipping in, one way or another, the most significant contributions coming from Mike Etherington (50) Chris Hurrell (30), John Elliot(29) and Pieter Douglas (26).
Kerswell declared after 38 overs on 236 for nine, rather than risk losing their last wicket and the chance of the extra two points.
Kerswell’s bowling then proved too strong for St Cyres’ batting order who through a mixture of Pieter Douglas (2-19) Phil Lacey (2-11) and Paul Harding (5-16) were dismissed for paltry 72.
The 22 points gained sees Kerswell complete a clean sweep in their first five games. They are the only team in the Devon Cricket League to total 100 points.
CHARDTOCK powered to a 184-run win over Cheriton Fitzpaine. The star of the show in cricketing terms was the home skipper whilst the stars of the show off the square and outfield were the two dogs of Paul Strawbridge who ensured that not one ball was lost on the day despite Rob Hutchings slamming countless sixes into bushes and fields on his way to a superb 145.
It was the second year running that the Chardstock skipper has taken a liking to the Cherries bowlers for he slammed a similar big ton against them last season!
Jack Larcombe chipped in with 50 from the number three slot and there was a confident 31 from opener Tom Strawbridge.
Chardstock’s innings closed on a whopping 307-3. Spinner Paul Reynolds then claimed 3-15 as Cheriton laboured to 123-8 at stumps leaving the hosts big winners.
Hutchings said: “It was a cracking game for us as we posted a big score which enabled me to pass the ball around to get everybody involved. We need now to look to push on with our season and it’s certainly a case of more of the same please players in our next game.”
That next outing takes the villagers to new side Buckland on Saturday who sit bottom of the E Division after five defeats from as many outings.
