SDL - Schaw takes ton off Torquay

SCOTT Schaw clattered a century as Chudleigh defeated Torquay by 72 runs in the South Devon League.

Schaw hit 15 fours and two sixes during a 74-ball stay that helped Chudleigh reach 267 for five in 40 overs.

Along the way he shared in stands of 78 with Ed Forward (64), 39 with Bob Pickett (3) and 71 with Matt Dowrick, who was 25 not out at the end.

Pick of the bowlers for Torquay with two for 39 was Mark Gilmour.

Torquay were always struggling to keep up with the asking rate of seven an over, which had climbed to more than 13 with nine overs to go.

Tidy spells from Matt Ball (2-32) and Will Heather (2-34) were complemented by Rob Clarke taking four for 37 as Torquay struggled to catch up.

Nick Watkin top scored for Torquay with 44, just pipping Neil Osborne (41).

STOKEINTEIGNHEAD forge on at the top of the Division Two table following a 95-run win at Plymstock.

Jamie Gray top scored on 64, but it was the Russell Brothers – Paul (54) and Mark (48) – who formed the backbone of a total of 227 for seven.

David Grant (3-29) would eventually cause the batting side most damage, taking two wickets in one over and a third soon after.

The Plymstock openers were no match for Tom Wills and Tom Hawkins, who saw them off the pitch for only 14 runs.

In fact it was only Josh Hocken who provided any real resistance, clocking up 68 before being dismissed by the evergreen Graham Hooker behind the stumps.

The bowling attack of Paul Russell (3-19), Wills (3-45) and Hawkins, scuttled out the home side for 132 all out – Hocken and Tom Hird adding 57 of them for the seventh wicket.
