Alphington lose unbeaten record in EEL

LATEST TABLES

COUNTESS Wear inflicted Alphington’s first defeat of the season in Division Two of the Island Cricket Exeter T20 league to move above their cross-city rivals at the top of the table.

Hosts Alphington batted first and posted a respectable 142-8 from their 20 overs, opener Anthony Shepherd anchoring the innings with 57.

James Bogue was the pick of the Wear bowling with 4-37. Bogue also starred with the bat, scoring 42 as the visitors chased down the required target with four balls and seven wickets to spare, Dave Harkness’ 45 not out seeing them across the line.
Cullompton moved up into third with a comfortable eight-wicket win at home to Exwick.

The visitors’ Greg Newcombe made 49, but their batsmen struggled thereafter against an economical spell from Cully’s Ed Hobbs (3-13).

Richard Stevenson carried his bat for 56 as the home side cruised home with five overs to spare.
A high-scoring Topsham derby saw Met Office victorious at St James by just nine runs.

Peter Weston (57) and Rami Yedidi (44) got the Weathermen off to a flyer, with Graham Atkins (33) and Paul Earnshaw (26) continuing the good work as the visitors amassed 193-6.

In reply, St. James’ Nick Horne launched a furious assault, carrying his bat for 125no from just 65 balls, including 18 boundaries!

Unfortunately for the home side, it was in vain as Ian Lisk’s tidy 3-27 ensured the Met Office had just enough on the board at stumps.
There were no games in Division One as Shobrooke Park were unable to raise a side, conceding their game at Clyst Hydon in the only scheduled fixture.
