IPPLEPEN and Stokeinteignhead tied the last time they met in the South Devon League – and the rematch was almost as tight!
This time Stoke were the winners, but they only clinched victory by four wickets with three balls to go.
Ipplepen batted hard with Andy Tuckett (35) and Chris Crocker (34) providing the early scores.
Tom Hawkins and Tom Wills kept the score rate low initially, but the openers saw the first spell off as they were resolute.
Rachit Lackmani (49) and Maynard (63) proved to be rather more difficult to remove.
They took the score to 218 after 35overs before Rachit was stumped.
The final total was a comfortable 247 for 4.
Stoke openers Paul Russell and Danny Britcliffe, battled hard in the heat with Britcliffe falling early. Andrew Thornton-Clarke provided 33. Mark Russell joined brother Paul and between them delivered a partnership of 134.
Paul Russell was dismissed for a superb 109 by Rob Cooke (2-43).
Stoke needed just 17 off 18 balls and promptly lost Mark Russell to Cooke for an important 63.
Fred Allen and Tom Hawkins added a few, until Allen was run out and the pressure was really on.
The final stroke of the game saw Pribil Krishnan strike a boundary to complete the victory.
