TORQUAY slipped further into trouble at the wrong end of the Premier table after suffering at whopping 169-run defeat at Sidmouth.

Sidmouth amassed 354 for six in their 50 overs with Liam Lewis and Peter Randerson both slamming centuries.

Lewis belted 17 fours and three sixes on his way to 140 off 139 balls while Randerson went ballistic for his, which came off 98 balls with 72 in boundaries.

The two former Heathcoat players shared a stand of 236 for the fourth wicket – smashing the previous best of 195 set by Brad Donelan and Richard Newton set for Seaton against Exmouth in 1994.

Sidmouth’s total of 354 for six is the third-highest in the history of the Premier Division.

Nick Gingell marked his first appearance of the season so far with 36 off 21 balls as the runs just kept on coming.

Torquay were all out for 186 in reply and were never remotely up with the asking rate of more than seven an over.

Matt Thompson (42) and brother Joe (36) helped make it respectable for Torquay – and there was assistance from Des Kruger (29) and Nick Watkin.

Spin proved Torquay’s undoing with Charlie Miles and Matt Cooke taking three wickets each.

Cornwood (96pts) won the basement battle against Budleigh to move within four points of Torquay (100) in the logjam at the bottom of the table where Bradninch (97) are also fighting for survival.
