Thorverton up to second

THORVERTON are up to second in the B Division table after they beat Ivybridge by 41 runs.

James Hope stroked 76 off 96 balls as Thorverton recovered from 13 for three to make 183 for eight.

“We were in plenty of trouble before Hopey played such a great knock,” said skipper Graham White.

The game got away from Ivybridge during the time it took them to slip from 114 for four to 133 for nine. They were all out for 142.

Harry Choules (31) and Hope got Thorverton going after they had been 13 for three with a stand of 42 for the fourth wicket.

Hope hung around for 96 balls, hitting eight fours and three sixes, and shared further stands of 59 with Adrian Gray (18) and 51 with Will Denford (19) as the scoreline grew.

Jeewan de Silva and Jamie Bullock had identical bowling figures of two for 33 while Harry Solomon’s nine overs for 20 runs caught the eye.

When Ivybridge were 103 for three with 14 overs to go, the odds were stacked on their favour.

Then Hope took a hand in proceedings. His three for 20 from 28 balls sent Ivybridge sliding towards 142 all out.

Crucially, Hope removed de Silva (38), breaking a stand of 48 with Kelvin Trent.

Dan Beatty returned for a second spell and after nipping out Trent for 38 knocked over Pete Abraham and George Thompson to finish with figures of four for 23.

Thors, who are a point ahead of Bideford (3rd) and 26 behind leaders Tavistock, are away to Braunton on Saturday.

Ivybridge skipper Gareth Andrews said the batsmen had to take a share of the blame for the 41-run defeat that cost his side third place in the table.

Andrews said a game that was there to be won was thrown away by poor batting.

“Our batting needs to improve, especially when we are chasing,” said Andrews.

“It let us down against Thorverton after a pretty good bowling effort.’
