THORVERTON dropped a couple of points in the win over Braunton – and it cost them second place in the B Division table.
For Bideford had a better win over depleted Axminster and move into second place behind leaders Tavistock.
And with Ivybridge just a point behind Thorverton, it is shaping up to be the best promotion run in for years.
Bideford at home to Thorverton on the last day of the season has the potential to have a lot riding on it…
Braunton – 90 for one at half way – finished up with 205 for eight having lost their way in mid-innings.
After Rob Collier (52) and Andy Paddison (46) got Braunton started, they collapsed to 112 for five.
Tom Robotham (27) and Mark Mitchell (21) restored some order before the collapse became a capitulation.
There were two wickets each for Dan Beatty, Nick Barton and James Hope.
Thors didn’t start well – they were 33 for three – but started to make inroads through Dave Baldock (33) and Beatty.
Beatty saw Baldock and James Maxwell (22) come and go as Thors got to 155 for seven.
For the rest of the chase Stuart Tait (11no) kept his end intact as Beatty (61no) whittled down the target.
Skipper Graham White wasn’t too disappointed by dropping a place as he had problems putting his side together and was happy to come back with a win.
“We went to Braunton missing four 1st X1 players, who were our two opening bowlers, first change seamer and our best bat,” said White.
“So to get a result showed great character and we owe a lot to Daniel Beatty for that, as he was more than ever before, the difference between the two sides.”
