PLYMOUTH 2nd XI got a full game in against their Heathcoat counterparts and won a close game by 12 runs.
Jack Hale hit a top score of 75 and Devon prospect Dan Goody showed he could bat as well as bowl with 24 in a total of 176 for nine.
Fast bowler Goody – who is 16 and attends Devonport High School – the steamed in to take three for 36 and with Jack Kerridge (3-24) getting in on the act Heathcoat were struggling.
Heathcoat tail ender Ollie Mitchell (37) and Matt Hodgson put on 55 to hold up Plymouth before Alex Hill wrapped tings up with two wickets.
Plymouth 3rd XI suffered a seven-wicket defeat at Cornwood, where they were bowled out for 50 by Robin Dart, Matt Petherbridge and Chris Horton with three wickets each.
There were fun and games for Plymouth 4th XI in their meeting with Bovey Tracey, which they lost by 120 runs.
With Bovey running riot – Tom Hughes hit 114 – Plymouth captain Dave Watson tried every bowling option he had in an attempt to slow things down.
“All 11 lads had a bowl – even wicketkeeper Luke Edmonds took his pads off and had a go,” said Watson.
“We had eight lads aged 16 or under who all claimed to be able to bowl, so I gave them a go.”
Bovey finished on 248 for four, which was far to many for Plymouth, although they did have a go.
“Liam Edmonds was 40 not out after hitting five sixes and two fours in his first three overs – and went on to hit a few more in his 71,” said Watson.
“Trouble was Liam went in at 20 for four and it was a big ask to win it from there.”
Plymouth were all out for 128 in reply.
