A Division - pressure on Paignton to win

PAIGNTON go into their meeting with leaders Heathcoat knowing defeat really isn’t an option.

Last Saturday’s run-rate defeat by Hatherleigh dropped Paignton down to fourth, 26 points off Sandford in the second promotion spot.

Another defeat now would leave Paignton a lot of catching up to do in the final four games.

“We feel confident going into the game and know what we are capable of,” said skipper Connor Bryan, who leads an unchanged team.

“The team have trained hard and well this week, so preparation for the game has been good.”

Heathcoat, who played Brixham last Saturday in a game of few highlights before the rain intervened, make two changes.

“Matt Hague and Jamie Drew come back into the bowling attack this week.

“No other changes for what is a massive fixture,” reported Heathcoat captain Sam Smith.

Elsewhere in the A Division relegation worriers Abbotskerswell go to Brixham looking for a win to get then out of the bottom two.

We have five games remaining this season and every one of them is important,” said skipper Richard Acton.

“We have to start winning or picking up more points if we do lose.

“We beat Brixham last time out so we know what we are capable of.

“Confidence is still high in the team despite our form.”

n come Paul Acton, Harrison-Roberts and Matt Beasant, to replace Birt, French and Sean Green.

Relegation worriers Plymstock go to Plympton, which will be the first result Abbots’ skipper Acton looks for tomorrow night.

Plympton captain Jeremy Williams has promised Abbots he will be doing his best to do them a favour,

“It is a derby both of us are keen to win for varying reasons,” said Willliams.

“We have been playing reasonably well of late without really hitting our straps and Plymstock have had a couple of good results so it should make for an excellent game.”

Somerset have made Lewis Gregory available so he comes in for John Fish at the top of the order. Bottom side Braunton are away to Sandford.

Problems seem to be mounting up for Braunton, who this week lost 2nd XI skipper Chris Brigden to Barnstaple & Pilton.

Braunton only had eight men for the 2nd XI game at Plymstock last Saturday, which might have something to do with Bridgden’s decision to go.
