North Devon one win from T20 finals day

NORTH Devon defeated Hatherleigh in the play-off at Instow by 54 runs on Friday evening as the Servicemaster T20 finals day picture starts to take shape.

The county semi-finals and finals are due to be played at Plympton on July 19. So far Exmouth are the only definite qualifiers.

Max Curtis (pictured, right) was the man of the moment for North Devon with 89 off 62 balls in a total of 155 for four.

Curtis – six fours, three sixes – and Barney Huxtable (22) jacked up 69 for the first wicket.

Curtis was last man out on 145 with an over to go. His final  stand was one of 56 with Ed Yeo (18no).

Hatherleigh skipper Mark Lake showed why Devon Lions have been interested in his form recently by bowling four overs of spin for 17 runs.

Hatherleigh slumped to 37 for four in reply – Sam Witheridge (2-13) and Ricky Kelly (2-25) doing the damage – and could not catch up.

Charlie Neilson made 24 in a losing cause as Hatherleigh were held to 101 for eight in reply.

North Devon now have to find a date to play Lewdown, who won the West Devon qualifying round last Sunday by defeating Tavistock in the final.  Skipper Harry Geering (left) made a ton for the winners.

Bovey Tracey will play Torquay on Sunday morning in the south area qualifier.

In the Ivor Dewdney-sponsored West Devon competition, Plymouth and Cornwood are due to meet at Plymstock on Sunday in the qualifier.

Holders Exmouth are through to finals day in the Servicemaster Clean Devon T20 competition after winning the East Devon play-off at Budleigh Salterton.

Seaton were demolished in the morning semi-final after Exmouth amassed 231 for two – Richard Baggs hitting a 45-ball century along the way.

Sidmouth proved a marginally tougher to crack in the afternoon final, which Exmouth won by eight wickets.
