Andy Forward umpiring the game between Exmouth and Sidmouth last season
MINOR Counties umpire Andy Forward has taken over the reigns of the Devon Association of Cricket Officials following the unexpected resignation of Gavin Lane, retired Naval officer, took over as chairman in 2011 from David Moseby.
Explaining his decision to stand down, Lane said: “I feel I have made my contribution and now it is the turn of someone new to lead the Association.
“I can relax a bit and concentrate on the Devon Cricket League (Lane is rules officer) and scoring for Devon Women.”
Vice-chairman Andrew Forward will replace Lane until the annual meeting of the Association in November, when he plans to put himself forward.
“I have had a long think about it and decided I will stand,” said Forward.
Forward was a player then club umpire with the Heathcoat club, making the switch from one to the other in 1982.
He stepped up his interest in umpiring in 2002 and since then has been elected to the Minor Counties Panel (2012) and the ECB D List (2013).
The Forwards are a cricket family through and through. Dad Dennis played for Heathcoat and Devon and Andy’s brother Neil also played for the Heathcoat club.
