Sidmouth skipper warns Plympton of form batters

SIDMOUTH skipper Will Murray had a warning for Plympton’s bowlers ahead of their basement side’s visit to the Fortfield.

Openers Liam Lewis and Matt Cooke have been in brutal form recently and if they get going it could be carnage.

“Plympton are going to be low on confidence having got half way through the season without winning a game – and if the sunshine continues they will be bowling on a flat Fortfield track” said Murray (pictured).

“Liam and Cookie are in great form at the moment and if they get going they can take any attack apart.”

Lewis had a slow start to the season, but has posted a couple of tons in the last few matches in league and cup.

Cooke had 97 against Exeter last Saturday, 65 not out in the T20 semi-final against Bradninch on Sunday.

Sidmouth will have to replace former Devon captain Josh Bess in their side as he has returned to Australia having been home briefly for his maternal grandmother’s funeral.

Bess made a half-century against North Devon and took four wickets off Exeter, jogging a few Sidmouth memories.

“It was reminder, of just how good a player Josh is and how much we miss him,” said Murray.

An option for Murray is to bring in early order batter Will Sobczak, a regular last summer who went to Australia for a winter and decided to stay.

Sobczak is home seeing family for a couple of weeks and the temptation to play him may prove irresistible.

If Plympton skipper James Carr was aware of Murray’s views on the game, it doesn’t  show.

“We are looking forward to Saturday’s match as its one of, if not the best grounds to play at,” said Carr.

“Everyone clearly knows Sidmouth’s capabilites but we will have a good go and keep fighting all the way.”

Duncan Hefford, Dave Wrench and Ross Farrer all unavailable, so Ryan Skinner, Matt Gregory and Dom Mulberry come in.

Craig Donohue returns to the 2nd XI with Plymouth College prospect Dave Ackford coming in for his 1st XI debut.

“Lots of changes, but that's story of the season so far,” said Carr.
