Wright slams quick fire ton against tourists

NOAH Wright hit an unbeaten century as Devon under-16 defeat Haberdashers’ Aske 1st XI by nine wickets at Axminster.

The touring school side were in high spirits after beaten Devon Dumplings at Exmouth by six wickets the day before, but found he county side a tougher proposition altogether.

Ian Harris top scored for the tourists with 99 not out in their total of 186 all out.

Matt Parker with four for 29 in two spells was the pick of Devon’s bowlers.

After spinners Chris Yabsley, Harry Ward (2-20) and Matt Petherbridge (2-31) kept it quiet in the middle, Parker returned to take three for 12 in 20 balls to close the innings.

Knocking off the runs was a cakewalk for Devon, who had the job done inside 24 overs.

Wright blazed away for 118 off 82 balls with 14 fours and seven sixes. He went from 0-50 in 36 balls and took just 33 more to reach his ton.

Harvey Sargent – fresh from making his debut for Devon’s Minor Counties side against Herefordshire – batted through for 44 not out.

By the time Wright (pictured right with Sargent) fell the score was 169 and the game all but over.
