IVYBRIDGE defied a lengthy injury list and a shortage of bowlers to beat Chudleigh by 76 runs a Kate Brook.
Skipper Gareth Andrews chose to bat first and was rewarded with a total of 230 all out with nine balls of the 45 overs remaining.
Opener Andy Johnson made 91 off 104 balls with 10 fours and three sixes – and looked on course for a ton when veteran Mark Heather (4-52) snared him lbw.
Johnson was third out with the score on 156 having shard a stand of 123 for the third wicket with Jeewan De Silva.
De Silva went on to reach 62 and there was a handy 28 from Kelvin Trent.
No one else in the batting order made more than seven!
Rob Clarke was Chudlegh’s other main wicket taker with four for 40.
Andrews persuaded Paul Veale to return to the 1st XI to help out in a crisis and he got stuck in with two early wickets
Jamie Bullock had two more and when Clarke fell to Adam Huxtable the home side were a wobbly 61 for five.
Shaun Newland made a battling 54 off 75 balls and Dan le Marquand (28) kept him company in a stand of 63 for the sixth wicket.
Once de Silva (4-12) broke the stand by whipping out le Marquand it was downhill all the way to 154 all out.
Said Andrews: “It was close to our best performance of the season.
“Andy Johnson set it up with 90 odd, Jimmy Bullock and Paul Veale bowled excellent opening spells and the game was probably already won before Jeewan went though the tail.”
