SIDMOUTH can enhance their Premier Division title aspirations of they win at Bovey Tracey on Saturday.
The two teams are neck-and-neck on 150 points behind leaders Torquay (162pts) and second-placed North Devon (154).
It is shaping up to be a close-run affair for Sidmouth, if they want to retain the title they won last year.
Skipper Will Murray won’t be playing as brother Charlie is getting married.
But he will be in regular contact with number two Peter Randerson, who is in charge in his absence.
Bovey have won their last two games without master batter Malcolm Lake, who has been on holiday in Zimbabwe.
Murray said those results said something important about Bovey Tracey,
“Bovey have been a top-four side for several seasons, but seem to have improved all round this year,” said Murray.
“Lake is the leading run scorer in the division with around 600 already. If Bovey can win without him they have definitely improved.”
Miles Dalton will come into the selection frame for the game as Bovey can be a spinners’ track at times.
Sidmouth’s Booker Wholesale Devon Cup game against Bradninch on Sunday is likely to be postponed.
Sidmouth have three players in Devon’s squad playing in the Unicorns T20 final - and two more in the Lions team facing Cornwall.
“We the Devon team was announced on Monday we got straight on to the cup organisers and Bradninch to sort out a new date,” said Murray.
