Champions – North Devon Tarka Ladies show off the West regional cup

NORTH Devon Tarka Ladies are through to the national finals of the Lady Taverners; eight-a-side National Hardball competition after beating Charlbury in the last eight.

Carmen Clements scored a magnificent 101 not out in the semi-final at the Frenchay club in Bristol.

With Daisy Meadowcroft (23) and Eluned Davies (41) playing great supporting roles, Charlbury were left to chase 193.

The Oxfordshire side stayed with the run rate until the sixth over when Tarka took the pace off the ball

After that the run rate dropped and wickets soon fell. Charlbury were bowled out for 61 and lost by 132 runs.

Meadowcroft was the pick of the bowlers, taking three for eight off 3.1 overs to win the West final.

The girls will travel to Grantham in Lincolnshire at the end of July for the national finals.

The competition started with 168 teams spread across four regions. The winner of each region attends the national finals.

Coach Mark Overton said the girls deserved all the success they have achieved so far

“They have worked hard and been focused on this competition since they were U13s,” said Overton.

“Many thanks are due to their clubs, where they play for their boys’ and men's teams, who have supported the Tarka girls’ and ladies teams wholeheartedly.

Jan Witheridge, the team manager, added her thanks to the numerous coaches who have helped mould the team.

“Credit must go to the North Devon District and Devon coaching set-up and County age-group programmes, which have led to the girls playing such a great standard of cricket,” she said.
