Thorverton win by 10 wickets again

THORVERTON won by 10 wickets for the second week in a row – this time putting Abbotskerswell to the sword.

Abbots eased along to 53 for none – then collapsed in a heap as Jake Choules (6-20) and Jake Crouch got stuck in.

Five wickets went for 12 runs added as the side started.

Charlie Mitchell batted through for an unbeaten 30, but only Dylan Nel (26) and skipper Mawgan Penrice (23) showed much application as Abbots were skittled for 119

Paul Fielder (66no) and George Greed (47no) reprised their performance against Axminster seven days earlier to set up another 10-wicket win.

Thorverton are now out of the bottom two after 10 successive weeks in the basement and looking to climb further.

Skipper Graham White is keen though to inject a note or realism ahead of the trip to Ivybridge this Saturday.

“That's four wins out of the last five games - and long may it continue,” said White.

“We haven't gone very far up the table yet, but our position will change dramatically with a couple more wins.”

White said the win at Two Mile Oak was all the more pleasing as conditions weren’t in Thors’ favour.

“The slow pitch in no way suited our opening bowlers, so we took the pace off early with our spinner and Jake Choules took six for 20,” said White.

“It's reassuring to know we have more than one trick up our sleeve.

Then to chase down the 120 for none with Paul Fielder and George Greed repeating last week’s performance was great so see.

“Back-to-back 10 wicket wins should make all realise we are playing so much better than we did at in the first half of the summer.”
