EXMOUTH held on to the Servicemaster Devon T20 crown they won last season by inflicting a 39-run defeat on North Devin in the final.David Lye made 30 and Sandy Allen 25 not out as Exmouth totted up 158 for seven.
North Devon needed 90 to win off the last 10 overs and lost wickets in a hurry trying to get up with the rate.
Opener Quintin Dreyer was top scorer with 29 for North Devon. No one else made more than 18 after he went in a disappointing total of 119 all out.
“We batted well as a team with lots of players chipping in,” said skipper Gary Chappell.
“Our 158 was a lot of runs and probably 20-30 above par.
“North Devon got off to a flyer and looked set for a close game.
“We clawed it back well once the power play was over with Lye and Pollard bowling great spells.
“Once North Devon got behind the rate it was always going to be tough as it wasn't an easy pitch to slog on and clear the ropes with big boundaries.”
Lye put on 34 with Richard Baggs (16) and 30 with Dan Pyle (30) as Exmouth reached 64 for two.
After a brief swing North Devon’s way – four wickets went for 29 runs in four overs – Exmouth stepped on the gas again.
Bob Dawson made 12 then Allen and Marquis Clarke (17) as Exmouth picked up the tempo.
North Devon’s 57-run opening stand between Tom Ansell (21) and Dreyer (29) had them ahead of the clock. Alvin Pollard (2-14) removed both in the same over then Lye changed the game with a three-wicket burst.
Ed Yeo, King and Tom Allin all fell to Lye (3-17) as North Devon dipped to 91 for five.
When Callum French fell to the returning Ian Bishop for 18, North Devon needed 61 to win in four and a half overs with four wickets in hand.
Clarke (2-32), Gary Chappell (1-13) and a run out finished off North Devon with a ball to go.
