Bradley praised for act of sportsmanship

PLYMPTON skipper Jamie Carr has praised opposite number Peter Bradley for an act of sportsmanship in the 127-run defeat by Bovey Tracey.

Plympton were all out for 188 in reply to Bovey’s 315 for six – opener Malcolm Lake scoring 126 for the winners.

Plympton had problems in the field as seamer Josh Mailling suffered a shoulder injury and young Todd Rossouw split the webbing between his fingers trying to stop a drive by Lake.

Mailling solidered on, but Rossouw went to hospital in nearby Newton Abbot to be patched up.

Plympton didn’t have a 12th man to act as substitute fielder, so Bradley provided one.

“I have to say thanks to Pete and the Bovey players as they lent us a fielder,” said Carr.

“They didn't have to do, but it was much appreciated.”

Bradley, modestly, played down his role, saying: “Not too much to say other than it was not a problem.

“It was the thing to do. At the time we were about 100 for none after about 15 overs.

If we had been 50 for five, it may have been a more difficult option.

“Thanks to ash causey, firstst for stepping up five minutes before the toss, due to a late withdrawal, then having to field for 15 overs for them.

Another defeat – that is 11 on the trot now for Plympton – leaves them anchored to the bottom of the table.

Carr said Plympton didn’t help themselves at times, but there were highlights as well.

“We were dreadful for the first 10-12 overs,” said Carr.

“If I could use stronger words I would, but it wasn't good.

“However we pulled it back, and did okay, unfortunately our fielding throughout wasn't good and didn’t backup the bowlers at all.”

That was the bad stuff. The better stuff was a solid batting performance by opener David Ackford, who made a composed 66 at the top of the order.

“He batted very well and showed he could score runs at this level,” said Car.

“When he and I were batting together we frustrated Bovey for a while, which was good.

“We had every intention of trying to get the score as that's how I play and want the team to do.

“We just weren't good enough and they were much better.”
