Fairbairn anxious Bovey aren't the fall guys

BOVEY Tracey will be disappointed not to get back to winning ways when they entertain Plympton.

Sidmouth beat Bovey last time out, but bottom side Plympton should be an easier proposition… shouldn’t they?

“I don’t think so,” said Bovey club captain Andy Fairbairn.

“Plympton’s performances have improved in the last few weeks and they won’t go the season without beating someone.

‘This season’s Premier Division is interesting as everyone is beating everyone else  - and that give the competition a bit more edge.

“I don’t want us to be the side Plympton beat first. We were disappointing against Sidmouth and need to play a bit better against Plympton to get the result they want.”

Bovey will be strengthened in the early order by the return from a three-week holiday in Zimbabwe of Malcolm Lake.

Also back is keeper Lewis Hammett, who resumes behind the stumps instead of Dom Whitlock.

Consistency of selection has been Plympton’s problem all season, not helped by losing South African Fraser Smith, who has apparently returned home to Cape Town.

It’s the same challenging story tomorrow with Ryan Skinner Owen Gannon Dom Mulberry Olly Mulberry all unavailable.

“I think most clubs would struggle to compete and do well with the problems we've had, let allow a newly promoted one,” said skipper James Carr.

In come Duncan Hefford Jamie Lee Craig Donohue Todd Rossouw.

“Jamie is back after being out most of season with a back injury and Todd has put in some decent performances for the 2nd XI and he's only 18 so fancy giving him a go,” said Carr.

Plympton have shown in recent games they are not basket cases by running Sidmouth close and showing some grit to frustrate Heathcoat last time out.

“We felt hard done by last week but the last two weeks have been encouraging and just want more of the same,” said Carr.

He added: “Bovey are playing well and one of the strongest teams, but we made them work for their win at ours early in the season.”
