Shobrooke up and running after two defeats

SHOBROOKE Park got back in business after two defeats with a six-wicket win over Abbotskerswell.

Shobrooke’s promotion prospects were starting to flag before the beat Abbots. Now things are on the up.

Defeats for Plymstock and Ipplepen mean Shobrooke gained ground in the teams above them. With 11 points between the top four – Chudleigh, Ipplepen, Plymstock and Shobroke – there really is everything to play for.

Abbots slumped to 30 for six under pressure from Andrew Codling and Dylan Blignaut.

Blignaut had three wickets, but it was keeper Codling who did the most damage.

Codling took the pads off to bowl and seamed his way to five wickets for 21 runs.

Charlie Hill top scored for Abbots with 26.

Shobrooke didn’t have it all their own way as Devon Lions seamer Hugo Whitlock (2-7) kept them honest. Anchorman Chris Ford, veteran left-hander Richard Pyle (26no) and Andy Steer (27no) got them over the line in the end having been a nervy 30 for four in reply.

“Whitlock was a handful, but could only bowl seven overs straight, due to being under age,” said Shobrooke captain Chris Simpson.

“Chris Ford used all his experience against him and faced most of his seven overs on a tough pitch.”

Shobrooke are away to lowly Braunton this Saturday afternoon.
