CORNWOOD showed why they are chasing promotion and Bideford are favourites for relegation with a seven-wicket win over the basement strugglers at Westward Ho!
Bideford, who had won their previous two games, played positively from the start by opting to bat first after winning the toss.
Matt Skeemer turned in season’s best figures of six for 20 as Cornwood skittled Bideford for 108 in the 30th over.
Craig James chipped in with three for 29 and the odd one out was taken by skipper Jason Hall.
Bideford opener Josh Roach made 24 – he was Skeemer’s first victim at 48 for two – and Paul Heard (22) was second best and fifth out at 64.
No one else made a double-figure score and four batters failed to make a run between them.
Cornwood tried to avoid taking chances on the chase as losing wickets costs batting bonus points when a low target is being pursued.
Ben Warren (11) went for 23 to Fred King and Jackson Thompson was second to go at 55 for two.
Mark Horwell (27) and man of the match Skeemer (35no) got the target down to 17 with Chris Parker joining Skeemer to administer the last rites.
Victory leaves Cornwood three points behind leaders Brixham and 28 clear of third-placed Budleigh, who ended a three-game losing streak by winning at Barton.
