BRAUNTON are alive and kicking at the bottom of the B Division table – as a 20-run win over fellow strugglers Axminster proved.
The Kelsey side were in danger of being cast adrift at the bottom had they lost what was effectively a double-pointer.
Braunton are still bottom, but not holed below the waterline yet.
As South Devon, Abbotskeswell and Axminster all lost, there s only 15 points between the bottom four.
Braunton scraped up 142 all out thanks almost entirely to Alfie Huxtable with 73.
When Huxtable went at 130 for six, the lower order caved in.
There were three wickets each for Dave Field and Ben Taylor and two for 22 for Nick Taylor.
Axminster were all out for 122 in reply – a fate on the cards when they were 49 for five at halfway.
Skipper Paul Miller top scored with 23 before hitting a Callum Mitchell full-toss in the air.
That was Mitchell’s one wicket in an impressive spell of eight overs for nine runs.
Ben Fuzzard (19) and Dan Fuzzard (18) detained Braunton for a while.
Mike Cashmore (4-27) and Mark Johnson (2-29) completed what was only Braunton’s fourth win of the season.
