Hatherleigh not out of danger yet

HATHERLEIGH aren’t out of relegation danger in the A Division yet after losing by three wickets to Budleigh Salterton.
Skipper Mark Lake said before the game he wanted two more wins in the last five matches to be sure of dodging the drop.
With top two Cornwood and Brixham coming up on successive Saturdays, Lake may have to wait a bit longer.
However, second-bottom Lewdown inadvertently did Hatherleigh a favour by getting in a winning position against Barton, then losing by 41 runs.
Hatheleigh have a 27-point lead over Lewdown and that is a cushion which wll help Lake sleep a bit better over the coming weeks.
Chris Jelley cracked 101 – 15 fours and 124 balls – in Hatherleigh’s total of 220 for five.
After Gareth Tidball and Danny Forrester were spun out early by Andy Procter (4-37), Jelly and Carl Schwarz put on 63 for the third wicket.
Rob Newman trapped Schwarz lbw for 28 to break the stand, not that it did Budleigh much good.
Out came Jack Cherrington, who embarked on a stand of 136 with Jelley that cruised along at six an over from start to finish.
Cherrington made 56 off 84 balls and lasted until the last over when the returning Procter had him stumped. Procter got Jelley lbw with one ball to go.
Budleigh made an unspectacular start – 44 for three after 11 overs with Jelley taking two of the wickets – but Cephas Zhuwao was still there.
Zhuwao walloped 66 off 47 balls – six fours, four sixes – and with Sam Richardson shoring up the other end Budleigh made an 81-run dent in the deficit.
When Zhuwao departed to Mark Lake (2-51) there was no let-up for Hatherleigh as Richardson and Newman put on 40 more.
Richardson was first out for 39, by when the target was down to 36 to win.
Newman’s 42 not out clinch the win with eight balls to spare.
