IVYBRIDGE skipper Gareth Andrews says the club will be going flat out for promotion in the last three games of the season.
The Bridge are up to fourth after beating relegation worriers Axminster by 64 runs.
Ivybridge have gently eased their way up the table in the second half of the season – they were closer to the bottom than the top at half way – and Andrews sees no reason to back off now.
“Saturday’s win put us 12 points behind Plymstock, who are in second place,” said Andrews,
“Our last three games are Ipplepen, Braunton and Abbotskerswell and if we win all three we should go up.”
There isn’t an easy game among them though as Ipplepen are also in the promotion shake-up while Braunton and Abbotskerswell are scrapping to stay up.
Jeewan de Silva hit 66 and Andy Johnson 44 in Ivybridge’s total of 195 for eight.
Pick of the bowling with five for 31 was spinner Gary Larcombe.
Bradley Cross (42) and Larcombe (38) then got Axminster off to a racing start as they put on 85 without loss.
Seven wickets went for just 10 runs as Axminster collapsed in a heap.
Harry Solomon took three for 21, de Silva had four for nine and Dan Newman (2-9) picked up his first wickets in the 1st XI as Axminster capitulated for 131.
Axminster skipper Paul Miller said: “What we saw in this game was the power an overseas player (de Silva) can hold over proceedings.
“He scored 30 per cent of their runs and then, when given the ball, wiped out the top of our order.”
On his team’s chances of beating the drop, Miler says: “We are intent on battling until the last ball of the final game.
“It’s still not all over and we just need a break and some inspired performances from the team and who knows?”
