BRIXHAM will clinch their return to the Premier Division after an absence of 23 years if they beat Bideford at Boundary Park this Saturday.
Hatherleigh were beaten by 101 runs last time out to keep Brixham top of the table by six points from Cornwood.
The figure that matters is the 33 points between Brixham and Budleigh, the only side left capable of catching the top two.
Eight points against Bideford – which should be a formality against a side already relegated – will ensure Brixham go up.
That will leave a title showdown with Cornwood on the last day of the season to determine who goes up as champions.
Brixham had to work for their 230 all out total at Hatherleigh and were glad of sizeable contributions from opener Stuart Edgar (58), club captain Andy Pugh (42) and Matt McGillivray (72).
Edgar and Pugh put on 94 for the second wicket, then fell nine runs apart to Chris Jelley (2-24).
McGillivray went in when Edgar departed and was involved in stands worth 114 before he was eighth out at 226.
The best of the chip ins were by Mark Orchard (19) and Joel Ashworth (14).
Sean Letheren (3-29) was the cheapest and most effective of the Hahtherleigh bowlers.
Andy Collier (2-31) had a couple at the end and spinner Mark Lake (2-34) got Josh Hunt and Craig Eaves in the middle.
Hatherleigh didn’t get the sort of start they wanted as left-armer Eaves ripped out five of the top six on the way to figures of five for 43.
Jelley (34) joined Jack Cherrington (15) at 49 for five and they out on 22 before Lee Upham had the latter caught behind.
Jelly soldiered on to 120 when Edgar got him out. In two and a half overs Edgar accounted for the tail, finishing with three for 15 in Hatherleigh’s total of 129 all out.
