Last-over defeat leaves Bridestowe scrapping for play-offs

CHAGFORD beat Bridestowe in an edge-of-the-seat finish to leave their Moorland rivals in a three-way fight for the play-off place.

Dartington & Totnes only need 15 points from their last two games to be sure of promotion as champions.

Darts meet Bridestowe this Saturday – which could be tricky – but play winless Ashburton on the last day. It would be a shock if they don’t go up.

Chagford found themselves four for two with Tom and Dan Fogerty both picking up early wickets.

Divan Marais (58) and Will Lammonby (45) then put on the biggest partnership of the match - 84 for the third wicket - to get Chagford back into contention.

Del Lammonby (31) and son Will put on 64 as the scoreline mounted.

Tom Fogerty (4-21) returned to pick of some tail enders as Chagford reached 205 for nine.

Bridestowe opener Tom Fogerty went straight on the attack and smashed a quickfire 39, before he departed to an excellent catch off Neil Rowlands (2-12).

The two Fogertys had put on 63 then James Ewen (37) and Mark Fogerty (31) took the score close to 100 only one wicket down.

Liam Gardener (3-44) and Del Lammonby (3-44) both picked up wickets to put the game back into the balance.

Mark Butler (33no) slapped a few boundaries to leave Bridestowe needing six to win with two wickets left going into the last over bowled by Lammonby.

The first ball took the wicket of Sam Smerdon, Matt Dennis smashed the for four, followed by a dot,

With two needed from the last three balls, Dennis was bowled to hand Chagford the win by just one run.

Realistically, Bridestowe need to beat D&T and Plymouth CS&R in their last two games to claim the second place play-off spot.
