IPPLEPEN are on thier way up for again after pinching promotion on the last day of the season.
Wind the clock back 12 months and Ipplepen were promoted from the C Division as champions having diced with South Devon all season at the top of the table.
This season’s B Division promotion race went right down to the wire with Plymstock, Ipplepen and Thorverton all in with a shout of going up behind champs Chudleigh.
Ipplepen needed Plymstock to slip up badly at Chudleigh - and the Dean Cross outfit duly obliged in a three-wicket defeat.
Thorveton did beat Shobrooke Park, but needed Ipplepen to lose too and came away empty handed.
Pens cracked on to make 237 for eight in their 45 overs – Dave Harris (37) and Sam de Friend (22) getting them going after a false start.
Having been 32 for three and 43 for four, Harris and Friend put on 53.
Sam Wakeham (40) and deFriend added another 69 – and it didn’t stop there!
Nick Fairbank made 50 not out and there were tidy contributions from Joe Abbott (39), Sam Wakeham (40) and Tom Dyer (31).
Alex Wraight took five for 44 and Gary Larcombe two for 75 from seven expensive overs.
Axminster had to win to keep slender hopes of staying up alive – and at 65 for one courtesy of Matt Pile (32) and Brad Cross (30) were well placed.
Steve Bowden turned the game with two wickets in an over and went on to take four for 19.
Seb Powell took two for 24 as Axminster plunged to 102 not out.
