PLYMSTOCK blew their promotion chances on the last day of the season when they lost by three-wickets at Chudleigh.
Chudleigh were already up going into the game and second-placed Plymstock were favourites to be joining them in the A Division next term.
Plymstock only needed seven points to be sure of going up – even if chasers Ipplepen won their last game against relegated Axminster.
On a day Plymstock will want to forget they were bowled out for 96, picked up three bowling points when Chudleigh batted and then learned Ipplepen had a full 20-pointer against Axminster to go past them.
Plymstock lost Jason Williams first ball – the first of Faisel Khaliq’s for scalps – but seemed to be recovering as Dom Wood (36no) and Jack Horton (33) moved along to 47 for two,
Horton went to Hugo Stronge, but Wood, Dave Orchard and Seb Jordan kept the board moving to reach 92 for four.
Then it all fell apart. James Nicholls went to Matt Heather followed by Khaliq taking three in four balls. They were Ted Richards Ian Whalley and Sayed Ali.
Tail-enders George Barnicott and Nick Lowe were run-out casualties as the carnage worsened.
Plymstock lost their last five wickets all on 96 in the space of seven balls.
Chudleigh’s chase wasn’t without it’s issues as they wobbled with victory in sight when they were under no pressure to get a result.
Skipper Ed Foreman had gone in at 27 for three and taken the tally up to 88 when he got out.
Foreman, Dan Coles, Will Heather and Shaun Newland all came and went adding just six more runs as James Nicholls (3-3) and Whalley (3-20) spun through the batting.
Khaliq and Rob Clarke chipped away the last few needed for a victory.
