Paignton win non-event against North Devon

PAIGNTON’S final game in the Premier Division before they are relegated turned out to be non-event.

North Devon were bowled out for just 64 in 21 overs, which Paignton knocked off in quicker than run-a-ball rate.

Devon batsman Max Curtis made 18 and Quintin Dreyer 13. No one else made more than Ed Yeo, who hung around for 25 minutes to make eight!

The early damage was done by Connor Ashworth (3-24) and Stephen George (3-8),

George Yates, one of Paignton’s  success stories in a disappointing season, mopped up the stragglers with four wickets for 17 runs in five overs.

Peter Taylor (35no) and Noah Wright (11) made a 45-run dent in the deficit.

Taylor was particularly severe on Yeo, who was lashed for 29 in his first two overs and didn’t get a third!

Wright and Richard Ashworth fell in successive overs to Tom Allin and Josh King, but the race was almost run.

Dan Wolf won the game in four balls with three boundaries and a single as Paignton crossed the line in just 9.1 overs.

Afterwards, skipper Connor Bryan confirmed he was standing down from the Paignton captaincy.

He said: “Even though we have been relegated, there have been many positives throughout the season for both the club and individuals.

“I have enjoyed every minute of my two-year stint as captain.

“I am sure whoever picks it up next year will do a great job of taking us back to where we should be – in the Premier Division.”
